My mind is overwhelmed with all the happenings in our lives, yet again. Not a day goes by that we don’t think of everything that occupies the space in our minds and lives. Today I will tell you of mine.
I have made it aware that our daughter, Ingrid, was blessed with Down Syndrome. As of the day she was born, we knew very little about Down Syndrome. We were, in a sense, very ignorant to think we had no need to know anything about it. But, for lack of a better phrase, we didn’t have a reason. Just moments after her birth we were informed of her diagnosis. Sadly, I will admit, I was heart broken. Not because our baby wasn’t *normal*, but for how the harsh world would treat her. As a parent, we only want the best for our kids. Ingrid was no different. We knew that no matter what her future held, we were there to be her biggest supporters. Our family would be there to hold her hand in any adventure, good or bad. I can honestly say that every day has not been easy, but it has been an experience that I cherish daily. She is sunshine! Ingrid can make your day just by her delicate smile. Trust me, she gets us every day.
When the time came for us to embark on our journey of learning all we could about Down Syndrome, we came across a few organizations & supportive communities. One being the International Down Syndrome Coalition. There we received the support we never knew we needed, and information that has helped us make Ingrid’s life better. Another is an organization called Changing the Face of Beauty. This organization is not just about spreading the word for Down Syndrome, but something bigger. Their message is that of Hope, Compassion, Understanding, Acceptance, and Love. Specifically in advertising, they want the world to see that everyone has beauty, regardless of a diagnosis or ability. They are encouraging retailers worldwide to embark on territory less traveled….to show models of all abilities in their marketing campaigns. They are reaching goals that have surpassed their expectations, and I want to be part of that!!
Here is where I challenge you. As I mentioned before, I am a new small business owner. I am an Independent Merchandiser for Chloe + Isabel. Our brand is a company built to empower women to become their own CEOs and make their dreams materialize. My new adventure has been exciting and, with your help, rewarding as well. For the rest of June, I am promoting a fundraiser for CTFOB. 50% of my commission for June will go to support their mission. I believe in their message and want nothing more than to be part of it.
Lets do this together!!! Help me support a message that deserves to be heard. Along with making strides to positivity in the media, you can help people like Ingrid know that people really do care.
